Wings Remembered: A Trio of Butterflies in Cross-Stitch

Butterflies are fleeting, yet unforgettable—symbols of transformation, memory, and quiet wonder. In this trio of cross-stitch designs, each butterfly is captured in stillness, yet alive with color and movement. Their wings speak of journeys taken and moments held, offering a gentle invitation to stitch with intention and care.

Each pattern measures under 100 x 100 stitches, resulting in a finished size of approximately 14 x 14 cm on 18-count Aida. The designs feature layered hues—soft browns, vivid blues, golden yellows, and subtle gradients—that require close attention to thread selection. Similar shades are used throughout, so take care to distinguish each color clearly. For a refined finish, ensure your stitches align consistently when viewed from the front.

These motifs are perfect for framing individually or as a curated set. They also lend themselves beautifully to fabric accessories—tote bags, pouches, or stitched panels for gifts.

You are welcome to sell finished pieces made from these patterns, and we encourage creative combinations. Mix butterflies with florals, poetic text, or seasonal themes to create your own expressive compositions.

Let each winged form become a reflection of your own story—stitched in silence, framed with grace, and shared with heart.

note : The sample work has been synthesized to give you ideas, so the size of the motif is not accurate.
Please be sure to check the Aida count and the size of the design before proceeding with the creation.

note: The measurements provided here reflect the finished design size only (the minimum stitch area) and do not include any surrounding border or margin needed for framing. To ensure you purchase enough fabric, use our calculator to find the required cloth size with your desired margin allowance.

  Butterfly Pattern    A02

I created a design of a swallowtail butterfly, which is often seen in Japan in the summer.
It looks colorful, but it only uses 11 colors.
If you stitch it with a larger count Aida, such as 14 count, the finished product will measure 21.60 x 19.96 cm (8.50 x 7.86 inches), making it a great choice for cushion covers, etc.

11 DMC colors
Cloth : Aida

Of all the butterfly designs, the blue butterfly is very popular.
It has a beautiful gradation from dark navy to blue, and although it looks difficult to create, it actually uses only nine colors! This was possible by exquisitely integrating and adjusting intermediate colors.
As it only uses a small number of colors, it is recommended for beginners.

9 DMC colors
Cloth : Aida
Stitch Count : 127(w) x 101(h)
14 ct : 23.05 x 18.33 cm--9.07 x 7.22 inch
